itb Earth Hour 2011 Commemoration. What an Amazing Moment!

“Exactly! Yesterday night was the most awesome moment I got along my life in itb!”

March 26nd 2011 was the day when the earth hour be commemorated. The global agreement had been accepted, in that day, along 1 hour, we turn off all the electricity stuff (especially lamp) to give the earth a time to stop crying a moment. And what exactly the real act of itb civilians? As the high awareness of all civitas academica in itb, we went together to CC Timur (East Campus Center) to see the blackout of itb in one hour as the circumstantial proof we do support the earth hour.

20.30 o’clock, the committee who initiated this earthhour movement, turned off all light in itb leaving the darkness cover all the place and building. The only ones light were the candles that were brought by us, the luckiest collegian who still had one hour leisure time to come to itb commemorating the earth hour 2011.

At that wonderful time, there were some candles which shaped the number 60 in the floor of CC timur lighted the performance of some associations (Himpunan) who still took the awareness of the earth. Really, it was one of rare brilliant moment once in a year when the source light in itb only came from the light of candles we brought for earthhour 2011.

After the performance, each of us grabbed a candle and moved to the road together. Yap, absolutely, we were gonna plan to shape the bigger number of 60 where the dots of that number are us, civitas academica who stood and took our candles up to shine the number 60. Well, the plan was work! All of people who came to itb at that time must never forget about this. We were included a few from billions people who still care the energy and the earth the most. Finally we did it, and I hope I can get the picture so I can upload in this blog asap.

And after one hour, we close the ceremonial with our highest greeting, Salam Ganesha, led by president of KM itb kak Herry Dharmawan with our strongest voice jarred the whole of itb.

Sustainable Development, Giving our Scion the day to smile

In the yesterday friday March 11th 2011, I was involved in one awesome forum which discussed about “the sustainable development” together with kak Cinta Azwiendasari, an alumni of Environmental engineering class 2004, who is continuing her master degree in German. Kak cinta came together with her other two German friends, Deibl and Vogel in order to share and discuss with us about the sustainable development. So in here I just wanna sharing the knowledge what I have gotten at there.

So, what is actually Sustainable Development? According to Wikipedia:

Sustainable development (SD) is a pattern of resources use that aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also for generations to come (sometimes taught as ELF-Environment, Local People, Future).

To realize the sustainable developments and implement them to every country all over the world, we need to take the environment issues on the top all other issue (without ignoring others). To make it easier to understand, there are 2  models picturing this:

Which one reflect our country?

The ‘Mickey Mouse’ model is the one who use the most by all countries in the world. They more think about how to jack up their economy side by ignoring the society and enironment. Whereas, the ‘Bullseye’ model is the sustainability one which places environment in the wide range circle, before the economy and the society. In chain-simple-question we got.. “What for money if the society is not welfare? And what for welfare society if the place where they are gonna live is damaged and broken?.” It is all about a place where we can live. As far as today, none any astronaut either the engineer have found another planet that human can live in. Just the earth who is very kind to give us the enjoyable place so we can live our life inside Him. Then what will happen if “He” die??

Most of us, perhaps still have the mindset that the age of the earth is still too too long. Even, some of them have the damn conceited taught that:

“In the case I will still live and will die before the earth die.. What for I protect the earth? It’s not related with me what will the earth will be.”

Well for you who still have the mindset like that, c’mon soon realize that we live in here not only for ourselves. We still have the young generation under us who still want to live and enjoy the beauty of the earth. They still want to shelter under the shade of tree, they still want to drink the fresh water which can fulfill their windpipe quenching the thirst. They still want thousand things like we got when the earth still green. Did you ever know that?

So from now on, when you still have the power to care each others.. when you still have the soul to be one with the earth.. when you still want your scion live with smile while facing the world.. give ‘them’ the future by using the sustainable development. Using green lifestyle in your day and never ignoring about the environment.[]
